Project Description:
This project will involve studies of NGC1672 (and potentially other galaxies) using the new SALT slitmask integral field unit (SMI) to better characterize the performance of the instrument and to study the ionized gas and star formation in the galaxy. This will be followed by analysis of the MeerKAT HI data of the galaxy to study the relationship between the different phases of the interstellar medium (ISM) and star formation. This can be be extended to utilize JWST data to further study the ISM using multi-band JWST data.
