MeerChoirs: Studying Galaxy Evolution in Nearby Galaxy Groups

Project Description:

In this project we'll be studying the HI and other galaxy properties of galaxies in the MeerChoirs atomic gas (HI) survey of nearby galaxy groups with MeerKAT. These are the most sensitive and highest resolution observations of these galaxy groups in the HI and the student will get to work with one (or more) of the galaxy groups and they will study which galaxies can be detected in HI, the nature of the HI in the group and multi-wavelength properties of the galaxies to study how their evolution is affected by their group environment.
