The Master’s programme is hosted by all 3 NASSP nodes: UCT, UKZN, and NWU. Students will spend the first semester at their chosen nodes completing the taught component of the Master’s degree. This consists of 5 NASSP modules taught by distinguished South African researchers from NASSP partner institutions.

Students will choose their Master’s dissertation topic from a range of projects offered by scientists at NASSP partner institutions. Students may move from a NASSP node to their supervisor’s institution once they have finished the coursework component. Students may also be co-supervised by scientists from the NRF National Facilities such as the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO).

Entrance Requirements

Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a BSc Honours degree in Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy or Engineering.

Fees and financial support

Students accepted onto the programme will be considered for NASSP-DST-NRF grants.

Accommodation

Accommodation for NASSP students can be arranged in close proximity to the university.
