Project Description:
Attempts at quantum corrections to the classical Einstein-Hilbert gravity action via, e.g. string theory, give rise to effective quadratic terms within the action. In 3+1 dimensions, a generic quadratic gravity theory consists of square terms of Ricci scalar and Ricci tensor. A lot of interesting solutions of quadratic gravity have been investigated by Barrow and Hervik (https://arxiv.org/abs/gr-qc/0610013), among which are early universe inflation and bouncing solutions. The project aims to investigate the stability of these important cosmological solutions with respect to homogeneous and inhomogeneous perturbations.
Research Area:
Astrophysics
Project Level:
Masters
This Project Is Offered At The Following Node(s):
(NWU)
Special Requirements:
The project will most probably involve the study of cosmological perturbations theory. Therefore it demands an inclination of the candidate towards mathematical cosmology and a sound analytic skill. Prior acquaintance with basic cosmology is desired.
