Lyman-break galaxies around a population of hyper-luminous, obscured, extremely red quasars.

Project Description:

Extremely red quasars (ERQs) are a population of hyper-luminous, highly obscured quasars. The high levels of obscuration and reddening observed in ERQs result from significant amounts of dust and gas, which play crucial roles in galaxy formation and evolution. These properties make ERQs potential tracers of rare and extreme environments in the early universe. We obtained deep Magellan/IMACS imaging in the g, r, and i bands to search for Lyman-Break Galaxy companions around ERQs. The findings from this study will contribute to our understanding of cosmic evolution and provide deeper insights into its formation.
